Landscape and Aesthetics Master Plan

VISION STATEMENT

This Landscape and Aesthetics Master Plan sets the course of action for considering landscape and aesthetics throughout the life of every NDOT-managed highway. Attention to landscape and aesthetics results in built highways that contribute to Nevada's tourist-based economy and its citizens' quality of life.

PROJECT NOTES

-$1.6 mil. funded research.

-Established funding level of up to 3% of all project construction costs.

-Defined the problem: the need for context-sensitive, aesthetically pleasing urban and rural highways that contribute to safe driving and wayfinding.

-Generated the program vision, process, design guidelines, and funding model.

-Conducted case study research on transportation department landscape programs, policies, maintenance management systems, and implementation costs.

-Assisted the NDOT to conduct field biology studies that identified weed control and wildlife corridors.

-Assisted NDOT to develop landscape and aesthetics department structure and project delivery matrix.

-Assisted NDOT to prepare scopes of work and selection of private sector design and planning consultants. Assisted NDOT to negotiate contracts.

-Led design and planning teams through corridor planning and public participation on four statewide corridors and extensive design guidelines.

-Assisted NDOT outreach and public education
